About the series
“Her pictures ask from the viewer more than a quick look.”
Faces, fruit and flowers rise slowly out of the dark, in the tradition of the Flemish primitives and the still lifes of Chardin and Coorte. Small pieces of rice paper, borrowed from the restoration of old paintings, cover a face, a shoulder, a wound.
The delayed gaze of the title is the viewer's: the image only appears as you keep looking. Solo exhibition at 44 Gallery, Bruges, 2019. Quote: Bram Van Oostveldt.
